Monica Wong

MSW, RSW, HBCE

Aloha and Mahalo! Thank you for reaching out! When looking for help, many people wonder, is the therapist/educator  qualified and can they help me? Let me help start by addressing my experience and qualifications. Besides being a registered social worker, with a Masters in Clinical Social Work, I've been a therapist for over 15 years, 13 of which has included a specialization in clinical hypnosis.  I teach clinical hypnosis to mental health and medical professionals. I've also been on the board of the Canadian Federation of Clinical Hypnosis: Alberta Division (CFCH) for over 8 years, two of which were as president. I recently stepped into the past-president position and continue to be faculty with the American Association of Clinical Hypnosis and CFCH. I am also a certified ASCH Clinical Hypnosis Consultant, able to offer consultation to therapists wishing to hone their clinical hypnosis skills.

My training has also included therapy modalities like EMDR, CBT and solution-focused therapy. I've been a HypnoBirthing instructor for over 12 years and utilize self-hypnosis personally, on top of teaching it professionally.  My work with clients is goal focused and I enjoy weaving in humour, hypnotic language and metaphors into my work. I tailor my approach and techniques for each of my clients.  I've successfully worked with hundreds of clients; my goal is to help you discover your conscious and unconscious blocks, to relieve symptoms and address the root issues that contribute to many of the struggles you may be facing. I aim to help you feel empowered and informed, and in the end, to work myself out of a job. I enjoy working with my clients who are motivated to change and am grateful I am able to hold space and guide them  through the difficult times, support them in the goals, and empower them to create lasting change!

More About Monica Wong

I was raised on the island of Oahu but have lived in Calgary for over 20 years. Although no longer living in Hawaii, I am to bring the spirit of Aloha, Ohana and dedication to helping those around me.  I work with individuals of all ages and am particularly fond of working with couples (I focused my graduate degree on couples work and published an article in the international journal, Contemporary Family Therapy on pre-marital inventories for couples).

Although I utilize various therapy modalities, my specialty is in clinical hypnosis and hypnosis for fertility and childbirth. Clinical hypnosis is using hypnosis in conjunction with therapy, it is not clinical unless counselling is involved. My clinical hypnosis training has been conducted with either therapists or medical professionals. I have hundreds of hours of training in clinical hypnosis (100 of which included training with world-renowned clinical psychologist and hypnotherapist, Dr. Yapko) and am passionate about teaching it because of the deep change I see in my clients. Hypnosis allows one to experience change, not just talk about it and to make shifts that can sometimes be harder to do outside of hypnosis.

I'm a certified HypnoBirthing® instructor and absolutely love working with my couples! I went into my first birth with hope, a good book and optimism, I soon learned I needed more! I became a HypnoBirthing instructor six months after giving birth to my firstborn and used it with my last two births, which completely transformed my birthing experiences! I continually hear feedback from my couples about how the course was helpful for pregnancy and birth, and that they'll miss the weekly relaxation and fun! : )

I have a passion for inviting compassion and empowering individuals and couples. I welcomes the opportunity to work with you. Free 15 minute phone consultations are available, as are day and evening appointments.

Mahalo and Aloha!
